KATHMANDU: The election for new leadership of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) is taking place today at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, Kathmandu, amid heightened activity and strong participation from business leaders across the country.

Under the federation’s statute, current Senior Vice President Anjan Shrestha is set to automatically assume the presidency.

The election is being held to select office bearers for the remaining positions.

According to Chief Election Officer Lila Mani Paudel, voting is being conducted for a total of 73 positions, with 137 candidates in the race.

The contest is primarily between two panels led by Hem Raj Dhakal and Shiva Prasad Ghimire.

The election will determine four vice presidents and other executive members.

Among the vice presidential posts, two will be elected from the district and municipality category, one from the associate category, and one from the commodity association category, while the remaining positions are for executive members.

More than 2,000 voters are expected to participate in the election.

The association includes 1,850 associate voters, 129 from district and municipality chambers, 107 from commodity associations, 17 from commodity federations, 8 from bi-national chambers, and 12 institutional voters.

The final results are scheduled to be announced on Wednesday.
