Hotel fined Rs 3 lakh over fish bone in Minister’s omelette

KATHMANDU: A hotel in Chitwan has been fined Rs 300,000 after a fish bone was reportedly found in an omelette served to Home Minister Sudhan Gurung during breakfast.
The incident occurred at Hotel Lords Business Complex Pvt. Ltd., located near Bharatpur Airport, where the minister had stopped for breakfast.
Following the complaint, a joint inspection team led by Assistant Chief District Officer Chiranjibi Sharma, along with officials from the Food Quality and Measurement Office, conducted an immediate on-site investigation.
According to the authorities, the inspection concluded that the hotel had been serving food prepared under unhygienic conditions, posing potential risks to consumer health.
The establishment was found using substandard cooking oil, stale vegetables, and failing to comply with basic food safety standards.
Officials confirmed that all substandard and unsafe food items discovered during the inspection were destroyed on the spot.
The hotel was subsequently penalized with a fine of Rs 300,000 for violating food hygiene and quality regulations.
