Home Minister pledges full control over fugitive prisoners ahead of polls
Minister Aryal emphasized that security workshops, such as today’s meeting, are part of the government’s broader measures to ensure a safe, fair, and peaceful election.
KATHMANDU: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has assured that the majority of fugitives and stolen weapons from the Sept 8-9 Jangi protests have been traced and will be fully brought under control by March 5.
Speaking at a Koshi Province-level security committee meeting held jointly by the Home Ministry and the Province’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law in Biratnagar today, Minister Aryal said special operations are underway to apprehend the remaining escapees.
“The government is sensitive to concerns raised by political parties regarding stolen weapons and fugitive prisoners, and we are taking responsible and prompt action, including engaging in dialogue with the parties,” he said.
Minister Aryal emphasized that security workshops, such as today’s meeting, are part of the government’s broader measures to ensure a safe, fair, and peaceful election.
He added that mechanisms have been established to maintain provincial government involvement before, during, and after the elections.
“The election is a fundamental exercise of democracy, empowering citizens and legitimizing governance. Without elections, good governance is difficult, and the country risks instability,” he noted.
Aryal stated that the current civil government is committed to holding a clean, transparent, and fair election on schedule, ensuring peace and security throughout the process.
Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki urged the non-partisan government to conduct elections neutrally and highlighted that the environment for elections has yet to be fully prepared. “With two months remaining, preparations for a conducive electoral environment must be strengthened,” he said.
Chief Minister Karki also stressed the need to equip security personnel with adequate resources and tools to maintain high morale.
The program was attended by Provincial Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Revati Raman Bhandari, Home Ministry Secretary Anand Kafle, senior officials of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and National Investigation Department, along with security chiefs from all 14 districts of Koshi Province.
