KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has directed the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) to reopen the investigation into the rape and murder case of Nirmala Panta from Bhimdatta Municipality, Kanchanpur, with a fresh and thorough approach.

During an inspection visit to the CIB office today, Minister Lekhak emphasized the need for a meticulous investigation to bring the culprits to justice.

“The bureau must accelerate investigations into all complex cases, including the murder of Nirmala Pant,” said Minister Lekhak. “Public trust in the CIB within the Nepal Police has grown, and this trust must be upheld with unwavering dedication.”

Expressing satisfaction over the CIB’s successful performance despite limited resources, the minister assured the ministry’s commitment to equipping the bureau with adequate facilities and resources.

Highlighting a rise in financial crimes nationwide, he also announced the formation of a Financial Crime Investigation Division to strengthen efforts against such offenses.

“Growing public confidence in the police has led to increased demands for police posts across the country,” he added. “Accordingly, a larger budget has been allocated this fiscal year to enhance police facilities compared to previous years.”

Stressing the critical role of the CIB within the police force, Minister Lekhak pledged support for the bureau’s development in technology and manpower to fulfill its responsibilities effectively.

Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police Hobindra Bogati presented a report on the CIB’s ongoing work, achievements, and challenges, confirming that investigations into the Nirmala Panta case and other matters are underway.

The program was also attended by Police Inspector General Deepak Thapa, CIB Chief Additional Inspector General of Police Chandrakuber Khapung, and other senior CIB officials.
