Home Minister Gurung resigns
Gurung said he took growing public concern seriously regarding issues related to his shareholdings and potential conflict of interest.
KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has stepped down from his position, announcing his resignation through social media on Wednesday.
In his statement, Gurung said he took growing public concern seriously regarding issues related to his shareholdings and potential conflict of interest.
He emphasized that his decision was driven by the need to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the matter, while preventing any perception of influence or bias that could arise from holding office during the process.
“I have resigned to facilitate an independent probe and to avoid any conflict of interest while I remain in office,” Gurung stated.
Shortly before making his decision public, Gurung held a meeting with Prime Minister Balen Shah, signaling mounting pressure over the controversy.
The resignation comes amid increasing scrutiny and public debate over transparency and accountability in government, with Gurung’s move likely to intensify political and institutional responses in the coming days.
