Holi celebrations restricted: No public gatherings
This year’s Holi coincides with the ongoing election period, prompting the administration to enforce additional measures.
KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office of Kathmandu has urged citizens to celebrate this year’s Holi festival in a disciplined, safe, and respectful manner.
Citing election code of conduct and security concerns, the administration has imposed strict restrictions on public festivities.
According to a notice signed by Assistant Chief District Officer Muktiram Rizal, public disturbances, quarrels, and consumption of intoxicants in public spaces are prohibited.
Authorities have also warned that anyone forcibly throwing colors, using slingshots, splashing water indiscriminately, or violating others’ consent will face legal action.

Displaying election symbols, candidate images, or wearing T-shirts, caps, scarves, masks, or badges associated with any political party or candidate during the festival is strictly banned.
The administration has appealed to residents to celebrate Holi only within their household compounds with family and close relatives.
Gathering in public spaces, organizing fairs, musical programs, or selling and consuming alcohol and other intoxicants in public is strictly prohibited to ensure safety and compliance with election regulations.
