Health Ministry shifts to NHRC building after fire damage
Although the old NHRC building within the ministry compound sustained partial damage, the new building was spared.
KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population at Ramshahpath has been temporarily relocated to the new building of the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) after its headquarters was severely damaged by a fire during the recent Gen-Z protests.
Although the old NHRC building within the ministry compound sustained partial damage, the new building was spared.
The fire, however, completely destroyed the ministry’s four-story office building, along with furniture, important files, computers, and vehicles parked in the premises.
Secretary Dr. Bikash Devkota said that for now, the ministry will operate from the NHRC’s new building. “We will resume regular work from there, and a separate office room is being prepared for the minister. Later, the ministry will be shifted to Singha Durbar,” he added.
The destruction has disrupted daily operations, and ministry staff are currently marking attendance in registers while damage assessments and documentation are underway.
Meanwhile, the Health Emergency and Disaster Management Unit of the ministry has been moved to a building at Bir Hospital for continued operation.
