KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has removed Harkaraj Rai from the post of Secretary of the House of Representatives following a recommendation from Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Office, the decision was made under Section 6 (e) of the Federal Parliament Secretariat Salary, Service Conditions and Facilities Act, 2017, based on the Speaker’s recommendation dated 2083/01/28 BS.

“On the recommendation of the Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal dated 2083/01/28 BS, President Ramchandra Paudel has relieved Harkaraj Rai from the post of Secretary of the House of Representatives effective from 2083/01/29 BS,” the statement said.

Rai had originally been appointed as Secretary of the House of Representatives on the recommendation of former Speaker Devraj Ghimire.

Rai was previously asked to clarify his position before the decision to remove him was taken by the Speaker. With the post now vacant, the process for appointing a new secretary is expected to move forward.

Under Nepal’s parliamentary system, the Speaker recommends the name for the post of House Secretary, which is then formally appointed by the President.
