KATHMANDU: Former minister Sudan Kirati has joined the Shram Sanskriti Party, marking a notable shift in Nepal’s political landscape.

At a program held in Kathmandu on Friday, party chair Harka Sampang formally welcomed Kirati into the party.

Under a reached agreement, Kirati will serve as vice chair, holding the second-highest position in the party hierarchy.

As part of the arrangement, his faction is also set to secure key organizational positions, including one vice chair, one secretary, and 15 central committee members.

Most of the leaders joining with him are reportedly from the Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party (PLP) faction.

Kirati’s entry comes in the context of a broader post–Gen Z movement political realignment.

He had earlier distanced himself from the Maoist Centre after differences emerged during a unity process involving senior leaders such as Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Following that, he had aligned with the PLP before ultimately joining the strengthened Shram Sanskriti Party, which is now expanding its leadership structure and consolidating its political base.
