KATHMANDU: A new symbolic Nepali play titled ‘Harayeako Kukur’ (The Lost Dog) has begun its run at Mandala Theatre in Thapagaun, Kathmandu.
The performance started on Asar 21 and will continue every evening at 5:30 PM (except Mondays) until Shrawan 4.
Written and directed by Mani Kulung Rai, the play uses the metaphor of a missing dog to critically reflect on Nepal’s failure to transform as promised over the decades.
The story unfolds from a humble tea shop, where news of a missing dog with a reward of one lakh rupees creates a stir. As various characters set off in search of the dog, the audience is drawn into a series of intriguing questions: What kind of dog is actually missing? Will it ever be found? And if found, will the promised reward be delivered?
Through its layered narrative and clever symbolism, the play highlights social and political frustrations in a darkly comedic tone.
The play has been adapted for the stage by Rabin Tamang. The cast includes Kiran Nepali, Smriti Kalamar, Rejmi Rai, Indreni Kulung, Rama Kulung, Avinash D.M., and Mani Kulung himself.
