KATHMANDU: Group B remains perfectly balanced after all four teams—Canada, Qatar, Switzerland, and Bosnia and Herzegovina—shared draws in their opening matches, leaving each side with one point.

With everything still to play for, the second round of fixtures could prove decisive in shaping the race for the knockout stage.

Canada vs Qatar: First Win in Sight for Both Sides

Hosts Canada national football team will look to secure a historic first victory when they face Qatar national football team at BC Place in Vancouver early Friday morning (3:45 AM Nepal time).

Despite high expectations, Canada struggled in their opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team. Under head coach Jesse Marsch, the team appeared nervous and lacked sharpness in the final third.

However, substitute striker Cyle Larin rescued a point with a late equalizer, marking Canada’s first-ever World Cup point after Jojo Lukic had given Bosnia an early lead in the 21st minute.

A concerning trend for Canada remains their defensive vulnerability, having conceded the opening goal in six of their last seven matches. Captain Alphonso Davies’ fitness is also under scrutiny after he missed the first game due to a hamstring issue. His potential return could significantly boost Canada’s attacking threat.

The two sides last met in a 2022 friendly, where Canada secured a 2–0 victory in Austria, a result they will hope to draw confidence from.

Qatar, meanwhile, arrive after a dramatic 1–1 draw against Switzerland national football team. Under coach Julen Lopetegui, they defended deep for much of the match before captain Boualem Khoukhi scored a stoppage-time header in the 90+4th minute to rescue a point. However, Qatar’s attacking struggles continue, with no wins in their last seven matches and limited goal output.

Switzerland vs Bosnia: Momentum Meets Resilience

In the other Group B fixture, Switzerland national football team will face Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team in a match that could reshape the group standings.

Bosnia head into the game with confidence after holding hosts Canada to a disciplined draw. The team has shown strong organization and remains unbeaten in their last nine matches, although six of those have ended in draws—an issue Switzerland will look to exploit.

Switzerland, meanwhile, also enter the contest needing a stronger result after consecutive draws, including a 1–1 friendly result against Australia. They will be eager to end their winless run and assert control in the group.

Group B Poised for Drama

With all four teams level on points, Group B is finely poised heading into the second round. Canada and Qatar are both chasing a landmark first win, while Switzerland and Bosnia aim to turn consistency into decisive results.

The upcoming fixtures are expected to bring high tension, tactical battles, and potentially major shifts in the race to the knockout stage.
