MP Malla demands PM apology over sovereignty remarks & power abuse allegations
MP Ramesh Malla accused the government of misusing power and adopting an increasingly confrontational and disrespectful tone in dealing with citizens, opposition parties, and ordinary people.
KATHMANDU: A Nepali Communist Party lawmaker has strongly criticized the government in Parliament, demanding a public apology and correction of remarks made by the head of government regarding national integrity and sovereignty.
Speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives on Thursday, MP Ramesh Malla accused the government of misusing power and adopting an increasingly confrontational and disrespectful tone in dealing with citizens, opposition parties, and ordinary people.
Malla called on the Prime Minister to withdraw what he described as “erroneous statements” made on the floor of the House concerning Nepal’s borders and sovereignty, and to apologize publicly from the parliamentary rostrum.
He further urged the Speaker to order the removal of those remarks from the official parliamentary record.
The lawmaker also criticized the recent passage of parliamentary rules and procedures, alleging that they were pushed through using a majority vote without adequate dialogue with the opposition.
He argued that several provisions of the new rules contradict the spirit of the constitution and have been introduced without building consensus.
Expressing concern over what he described as an increasingly hostile governance style, Malla said state agencies and officials were treating citizens in a retaliatory and undignified manner, which could undermine democratic and constitutional values.
He also raised allegations of abuse of authority from the Prime Minister’s Office, claiming that constitutional office bearers were being summoned and pressured in ways that could influence administrative or legal decisions.
Warning the government against ignoring opposition voices, Malla stressed that the opposition’s constructive role should not be viewed as weakness and urged respect for public mandate and democratic norms.
