KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has announced a major overhaul of all physical infrastructure projects declared by past administrations, aiming to correct inefficiencies and streamline development.

Presenting the government’s policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 BS before the Federal Parliament on Friday, President Ramchandra Paudel stated that all existing and under-construction infrastructure projects will be reclassified based on feasibility and priority.

The government plans to reform the overall development structure, pace, and culture by addressing past shortcomings and weaknesses in project planning and implementation. Projects will be categorized according to those that can be completed within the 2082/83 fiscal year and those that can be finished during the current parliamentary term.

Resources for all under-construction and proposed projects will be assessed, and projects that are unlikely to be completed will be postponed. Furthermore, flawed projects will be scrapped entirely to ensure better governance and resource utilization.

“In order to correct past errors in development practices, the structure, pace, and culture of development will be reformed,” said President Paudel. “All infrastructure projects declared by previous governments will be reclassified, and a clear timeline will be set. Projects that lack resource backing or have no chance of completion will be suspended, while faulty ones will be terminated.”

In addition to infrastructure reforms, the government has also pledged policy and legal reforms in the education sector to address existing challenges in school education. University education will be refocused on knowledge creation, research, and innovation.
