KATHMANDU: The government has increased excise duty on cigarettes and alcoholic beverages by 10 percent as part of its budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 (2026/27).
Presenting the annual budget in the joint session of the Federal Parliament on Friday, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle announced the tax hike, saying the excise duty on tobacco and alcohol products has been raised by 10 percent.
The measure is expected to boost government revenue while discouraging the consumption of tobacco and alcohol products.
