Govt proposes child cases to be heard directly in juvenile court
KATHMANDU: The government has proposed that all child-related cases be initially heard in juvenile courts as part of an amendment to the Children’s Act, 2075 and Regulations, 2078.
Speaking at an interaction program in Kathmandu on Sunday with stakeholders on the proposed amendments, spokesperson of the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Chakra Bahadur Budha, said that arrangements are being made for such cases to be handled in juvenile courts, with the provision to appeal to the High Court.
The proposed revision also includes a provision to impose a fine of Rs 50,000 per child if any individual or organization is found to have submitted false information to place children in child care homes.
Spokesperson Budha urged experts and stakeholders to provide suggestions on the proposal, saying the government is actively engaging in continuous consultations to update child-related laws in line with changing times.
