KATHMANDU: The Nepalese market witnessed an unprecedented surge in gold and silver prices, setting new records.

On Sunday, the price of gold rose by Rs 3,000 to reach Rs 203,600 per tola, following its breakthrough of the Rs 200,000 mark on Friday.

This marks the highest price of gold ever recorded in Nepal.

The Nepal Gold and Silver Traders’ Association stated that the new rate is significantly higher than the previous trading day’s Rs 200,600.

The remarkable surge in gold prices has surprised both investors and consumers alike.

Silver prices have also reached historic levels. On Sunday, the price of silver increased by Rs 65 per tola, reaching Rs 2,425—a record high for the Nepalese market. Previously, silver was traded at Rs 2,360 per tola.

Traders attribute this sharp rise to fluctuations in the international metals market and geopolitical uncertainties.

The significant increase in the prices of traditionally safe-haven investments like gold and silver has created a new wave in the local market, while consumers purchasing jewelry are feeling the direct impact of the price surge.
