KATHMANDU: The faction of Nepali Congress led by Gagan Thapa, elected as party chair in the second general convention, is set to approach the Election Commission again, following a move by the Deuba-led group.

On Friday morning, leaders of the Deuba faction visited the Election Commission, claiming that 885 delegates who had previously supported a special general convention had withdrawn their signatures.

The group also submitted proof of the signature withdrawals to the Commission.

In response, the Gagan Thapa faction plans to meet the Commission at 2 PM to counter the claims, party leader Subash Pokharel told Makalu Khabar.

The Election Commission has reportedly called the Thapa faction for discussions.

NC General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire criticized the Deuba faction, calling their claims misleading.

He said that the leadership of the party had already been determined through the delegate votes in the general convention, making the alleged withdrawal of signatures meaningless.

Ghimire further accused the Deuba group of attempting to undermine the rights of the convention delegates.
