KATHMANDU: France secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Senegal in a Group I match of the FIFA World Cup on Tuesday.

The match, played at the New Jersey Stadium in New York, remained level at halftime before four goals were scored in an action-packed second half.

France broke the deadlock in the 66th minute when star forward Kylian Mbappé found the back of the net.

The French side doubled its advantage in the 82nd minute through Bradley Barcola.

Senegal pulled one back deep into stoppage time as Ibrahima Mbaye scored to make it 2-1 and briefly raise hopes of a comeback.

However, France responded immediately, with Mbappé netting his second goal of the match a minute later to seal a 3-1 win and secure all three points for his side.

The victory strengthens France’s position in Group I as the tournament progresses.
