FNCCI President Anjan Shrestha assumes office
Speaking after the assumption of office, he said his primary focus will be to restore confidence in the private sector and create a more investment-friendly environment in the country.
KATHMANDU: Newly elected President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Anjan Shrestha has officially assumed office, vowing to strengthen the morale of the private sector and work closely with the government for policy reforms.
Shrestha, along with other newly elected office bearers, took charge at the FNCCI office on Thursday.
Speaking after the assumption of office, he said his primary focus will be to restore confidence in the private sector and create a more investment-friendly environment in the country.
He stressed that the government must ensure investment security and promote private sector growth through effective coordination and policy support.
Referring to the government’s already approved proposal on private sector promotion and protection, he urged its full and effective implementation without delay.
Highlighting the current economic situation, Shrestha noted that market demand remains weak, citizens’ purchasing power has declined, and capital mobilization in the economy has slowed significantly.
He said the upcoming national budget should introduce concrete measures to improve capital flow and revive economic activity.
He also expressed concern over the struggling state of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), stating that despite sufficient liquidity in the banking system, these businesses are still unable to access adequate credit and investment support.
Shrestha pointed out that the cooperative sector previously mobilized nearly Rs 600 billion in capital, but the recent crisis in the sector has further deepened the investment gap for small businesses.
He urged banks to develop a clear strategy to expand lending to SMEs, which he described as the backbone of the economy.
