KATHMANDU: Aston Villa’s perfect home run came to an end as Everton secured a 1-0 victory at Villa Park, leaving the Villans unable to close the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal.
The decisive moment came in the 60th minute when Theo Berry capitalized on a mistake by Pau Torres to score the match-winner, handing Everton a crucial win.
The defeat also ended Villa’s impressive 11-game winning streak at their home ground across all competitions.
Villa had early chances to take the lead, with Marlin Rohall’s effort striking the post just 11 seconds into the game.
Later, Jake O’Brien appeared to score with a header in the 33rd minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Despite remaining level on points with second-placed Manchester City, Villa are now seven points behind league leaders Arsenal, having missed the opportunity to climb to second.
The win lifts Everton to 10th place in the table.
Elsewhere, Newcastle and Wolves played out a goalless draw.
