KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has completed the verification of documents submitted by political parties for their proportional representation candidate lists.

According to Purnabahadur Ghartimagar, Director of the Commission’s Statistics Division, the verification process was conducted from Dec 31 to Jan 4.

During the process, discrepancies were identified and will be communicated to the respective parties via letters by Sunday evening.

Documents that were missing or candidates who did not meet the age criteria, among other errors, will be flagged for correction. Parties can resubmit their corrected lists from Jan 5 to 11.

Before the final list is published, candidates may withdraw their names if they do not wish to remain on the proportional representation list. Such withdrawals can be made on Jan 12, and the Commission will notify the respective parties accordingly.

Once parties submit any replacements for vacant positions, the Election Commission will release the final proportional representation candidate list.

Political parties had initially submitted their proportional representation lists on Dec 28 and 29 for the elections scheduled on March 5.
