Khushbu raises concern over purpose of Parliament’s five-day adjournment
Oli questioned whether any meaningful effort was made during the five-day suspension to resolve the ongoing parliamentary deadlock through dialogue, political consensus, or efforts to ensure effective parliamentary functioning.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Khushbu Oli has raised concerns over the prolonged adjournment of the House of Representatives, questioning its justification and purpose.
Taking to social media, Oli questioned whether any meaningful effort was made during the five-day suspension to resolve the ongoing parliamentary deadlock through dialogue, political consensus, or efforts to ensure effective parliamentary functioning.
“The House has been adjourned for five days. Tomorrow it resumes, yet it appears to restart from the same point of obstruction without any progress,” she wrote, asking, “For whom and for what purpose was the House actually suspended?”
Oli also alleged that during the dispute over the passage of the House rules, amendments proposed not only by opposition lawmakers but also by ruling party MPs were ignored, contributing to the obstruction. She further said the situation worsened after controversial remarks made by the Prime Minister.
According to her, opposition parties have been consistently demanding dialogue and accountability to safeguard national interest, parliamentary sovereignty, and the responsibility of elected representatives. However, she claimed no initiative for talks or resolution was taken during the five-day period.
Oli also suggested that the extended adjournment has raised suspicions that party interests were prioritized over national issues. She pointed out that while Parliament remained suspended, activities such as a ward convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party were facilitated, further questioning the decision.
“Parliament is not for the convenience of any party or individual; it is the supreme democratic institution representing the sovereign will of the people,” she emphasized.
She urged the Federal Parliament Secretariat to take serious note of issues affecting democratic values and parliamentary dignity.
