Drug traders protest over unaddressed demands, criticize govt
Business leader Gopalraj Pandey warned that if their concerns are not addressed immediately, traders may halt operations nationwide and resort to street protests.
KATHMANDU: Pharmaceutical business owners have criticized the government for ignoring their demands and restricting their right to peaceful protest.
On Monday, they staged a demonstration outside the Department of Drug Administration in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, complaining that police prevented them from holding their sit-in.
Business leader Gopalraj Pandey warned that if their concerns are not addressed immediately, traders may halt operations nationwide and resort to street protests.
The group is demanding the removal of provisions that automatically cancel licenses if professional renewals are delayed, urging the government to make operations easier through legal reforms.
Pandey stressed that their protest is non-political and aimed solely at regulatory relief, criticizing both Health Minister Dr. Sudha Gautam and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal for the police intervention.
