Dr. Agrawal appointed health advisor to PM Shah
KATHMANDU: The government has appointed senior medical expert and medical educationist Prof. Dr. Jagdish Prasad Agrawal as the Honorary Health Advisor to Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, according to official sources. Dr. Agrawal, a former Dean of the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Tribhuvan University, will serve as a key advisor to the Prime Minister on national health policy, public health challenges, and reforms in medical education.
Informing about the appointment, Prime Minister’s Press and Research Advisor Deepa Dahal said that Dr. Agrawal’s inclusion is expected to provide crucial technical expertise and strategic guidance for improving the country’s health system.
“Considering the experience and expertise of Prof. Dr. Jagdish Prasad Agrawal in the health sector, we believe his appointment will significantly support the Prime Minister in strengthening health policies and services. Having previously led a prestigious institution like IOM, he will contribute his knowledge and time to the state in an honorary capacity,” Dahal stated.
The appointment comes as Prime Minister Shah has prioritized public health as one of the key focus areas of his tenure. Dr. Agrawal will serve without any salary or financial benefits, contributing solely in an advisory role as a health expert.
