Dolpa sees multi-party contest for parliamentary seat

KATHMANDU: Himali district in Dolpa is gearing up for a competitive race for the parliamentary seat, with candidates from the Nepal Communist Party, UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Progressive Democratic Party, and Ujyalo Nepal Party confirmed.
The Nepali Congress has yet to announce its candidate, though Karna Budha, elected as co-general secretary in a special party convention, was reportedly recommended as the party’s nominee.
From the Nepal Communist Party, Dhanbahadur Budha has secured the ticket.
A seasoned politician, he has served as a parliamentarian three times and as a minister twice, winning elections in 2070, 2074, and 2079.
Budha previously affiliated with Rastriya Prajatantra Party, UML, and the Unified Socialist Party before joining the Nepal Communist Party.
UML has fielded Lankbahadur Rokaya, who is contesting a parliamentary election for the first time.
He previously lost two consecutive local elections as a rural municipality chairperson.
The Progressive Democratic Party has nominated Yuva Bikash Budha, a former Maoist Centre member who joined the party following Janardan Sharma’s split.
The Rastriya Swatantra Party has selected Devsingh Aidy as its candidate, confirmed by RSP’s Karnali Province committee.
Meanwhile, Ujyalo Nepal Party, led by Kulman Ghising, has fielded Dilbahadur Bista, who recently received the ticket and returned to his home district to register his candidacy.
