Dhading bus accident: All victims identified

KATHMANDU: All 19 victims of the deadly bus accident in Dhading have now been identified.

The incident occurred early Monday at around 1:30 a.m. in Bhaisigaunda, Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-5, along the Prithvi Highway.

Earlier, nine victims had been identified, and the remaining ten were confirmed later, according to DSP Prakash Dahal of the Dhading District Police Office.

The latest identified victims include: 63-year-old Rudra Prasad Dhakal from Tanahun, 20-year-old Archana Paudel, 21-year-old Anjali Kshetri from Kaski, 21-year-old Rohit Nepali, 45-year-old Ghanshyam Subedi from Syangja, 33-year-old Anisha Maharjan from Kathmandu, 27-year-old Hira Chaudhary from Morang, 26-year-old Sujit Nepali from Kaski, 32-year-old Manish Shukla from India, and 40-year-old Zhad Chunchan from China.

Previously identified victims include: 40-year-old Bibek Bastola from Pokhara, 63-year-old Chandra Bahadur Kunwar from Syangja, 40-year-old Omkumar Mall from Tanahun, 30-year-old Engineer Thakuri from Dhading, 55-year-old Bishnumaya Dhakal from Tanahun, 42-year-old Lopsang Gole from Kathmandu, 45-year-old Hariprasad Sigdel from Tanahun, and 55-year-old Navindra Shrestha from Palpa.

One foreign national, 24-year-old British citizen Stewart Dominic Ethan, also died in the crash.

The bus, bearing registration number Ga 2 Kha 1421, was traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu when it went out of control and plunged into the Trishuli River bank.

Currently, 14 injured passengers are receiving treatment at the National Trauma Center in Kathmandu, while 10 are at National Medical College in Kalanki.

One patient, New Zealander Mary Evade, is under treatment at Teaching Hospital.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
