KATHMANDU: The Advertising Board has issued a strong directive urging all stakeholders to immediately halt the publication and broadcast of advertisements on unauthorised websites, betting applications, social media platforms, and any outlets prohibited by law.

The move follows a recent Cabinet decision on March 27 to shut down all forms of betting apps and websites operating in the country.

Reinforcing the government’s stance, the Board warned that any ongoing promotion of such illegal platforms must cease without delay.

According to Chief Administrative Officer Devi Pandey Khatri, strict legal action will be taken against individuals, companies, or media outlets found publishing, broadcasting, or displaying advertisements linked to banned or unlawful digital platforms.

The Board has also called on the public and concerned authorities to promptly report any such activities.

The Board further reminded that under the Advertisement Regulation Act, 2076, advertisements promoting gambling activities or encouraging participation in unauthorized lotteries are strictly prohibited.

Authorities say the latest directive is part of a broader effort to curb illegal online betting and ensure compliance with Nepal’s advertising laws.
