KATHMANDU: A Kathmandu District Court has refused to extend the custody of prominent businessman and former Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) president Shekhar Golchha.

Golchha, who was produced before the court for a remand extension hearing, was not granted further detention by Judge Mona Singh’s bench.

He had been taken into custody for investigation into two separate cases related to securities and insurance offenses.

Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court had ordered his release in one of the cases concerning securities-related charges.

However, he was not released at that time due to the ongoing separate investigation.

Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) spokesperson SSP Shiva Shrestha said the agency had not yet received formal details of the court order.

CIB chief AIG Dr. Manoj KC noted that once a suspect’s statement has been recorded, the court can direct investigation without custody if deemed appropriate.

Golchha’s statement has already been recorded, while a bail hearing (thunchek bahas) is still pending.
