Court jails former SC official for unauthorized letter
The verdict was delivered on Thursday by Judge Khimananda Bhusal.
KATHMANDU: The District Court in Kathmandu has sentenced Mahimansingh Bista, a former section officer at the Supreme Court, to six months in prison for issuing an unauthorized letter.
The verdict was delivered on Thursday by Judge Khimananda Bhusal.
In addition to the jail term, the court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, according to court official Hemanta Bhattarai.
Bista had earlier been found guilty on April 5 on charges related to document fraud. Investigations confirmed that he had issued an official-looking letter without authorization while serving at the Supreme Court.
The forged letter led to the arrest of Resham Lal Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party Nepal. However, the document was later exposed as unauthorized, leading to Chaudhary’s release shortly after his detention.
Following the incident, the Supreme Court administration itself raised concerns over the letter’s authenticity and called for an investigation. Authorities subsequently detained Bista and proceeded with a case under offenses related to written documents.
During the investigation, the court had released Bista on a bail of Rs 100,000 before delivering the final verdict.
