Congress calls for special convention, backs Gagan Thapa for PM
He said a special convention is essential to break the conspiracy of anti-reform forces within the party.
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Co-General Secretary Farmullah Mansur has said the party must head into the upcoming elections with new leadership, fresh policies, and a clear direction.
Speaking to journalists on Friday at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Mansur argued that the relevance of a regular general convention has already ended and stressed the need to elect new leadership through a special general convention.
He said a special convention is essential to break the conspiracy of anti-reform forces within the party.
Mansur also proposed that the Nepali Congress should move forward in the elections by projecting General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa as party president and prime ministerial candidate.
Mansur warned that attempts to capture the party by blocking the convention process are unacceptable.
He accused the current leadership of deliberately preventing the convention because they fear losing control over ticket distribution in the upcoming elections.
Stating that the process for a special convention has already begun, Mansur reiterated that holding a regular convention no longer holds any justification.
