KATHMANDU: Colombia made a strong start to their FIFA World Cup 2026 journey with a 3–1 victory over Uzbekistan in their Group K opener at the historic Azteca Stadium in Mexico.

Second-half brilliance from Luis Díaz proved decisive as Colombia secured all three points to begin their campaign in style.

Daniel Muñoz gave Colombia the lead in the 40th minute, finishing a precise one-touch assist from Luis Díaz.

In the second half, Díaz himself got on the scoresheet, followed by a goal from Jaminton Campaz to seal a commanding win.

Uzbekistan, making their World Cup debut, managed to pull one back through Abbosbek Fayzullaev, marking a historic moment for the newcomers.

With this result, Colombia sit top of Group K with 3 points. In the other group fixture, Portugal and DR Congo shared points after a 1–1 draw.
