Coliform found in KMC office water; supplier fined, contract canceled

KATHMANDU: Coliform have been detected in the drinking water supplied to the central office of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, including the water consumed by Mayor Balen Shah and Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol.

Following the discovery, the metropolis imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 on CN Enterprises, the water supplier.

Additionally, the contract with the company has been officially terminated.

According to Nuranidhi Neupane, head of the Agriculture and Livestock Department, a formal letter was sent to CN Enterprises stating that the contract to supply drinking water has been revoked based on a decision at the level of the Chief Administrative Officer.

The letter mentions that technical testing of the drinking water supplied to the office revealed the presence of coliform.

As per Clause 19 and Clause 30 of the Kathmandu Market Management and Monitoring Act 2077, the supplier has been fined Rs 200,000.
