KATHMANDU: Manchester City kept their Premier League title hopes alive with a commanding 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Belgian winger Jérémy Doku delivered a standout performance as City secured a crucial three points in the title race.
The home side struggled to find rhythm in the opening half, looking unusually disjointed while Brentford managed to create moments of pressure. However, City came alive after the break.
Doku broke the deadlock in the 60th minute with a brilliant solo effort to hand the defending champions the lead. Norwegian striker Erling Haaland doubled the advantage in the 75th minute, putting City firmly in control of the contest.
Substitute Omar Marmoush sealed the victory deep into stoppage time with City’s third goal of the evening.
Doku has been in sensational form in recent weeks, registering five goals and two assists in his last six matches. Haaland, meanwhile, scored in his fourth consecutive Premier League game.
The victory keeps pressure on league leaders Arsenal in the race for the title. With three matches remaining, Arsenal sit top of the table with 76 points, while City are close behind on 74 points. Brentford remain eighth with 51 points.
In other Premier League matches on Saturday, Brighton & Hove Albion defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0, while AFC Bournemouth edged Fulham 1-0.
Liverpool and Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw, while Manchester United were held to a goalless draw by Sunderland.
