KAATHMANDU: Karnali Yaks captain Sompal Kami acknowledged his team’s struggles with both batting and bowling, which led to their defeat against Chitwan Rhinos in the opening match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

Sompal highlighted that despite opener Priyank Panchal’s strong performance, the other batters failed to provide support, resulting in a score around 20 runs short.

He also credited Chitwan for their excellent batting display.

The captain noted the challenge for foreign players to adapt to the new pitch and admitted some local players found it uncomfortable as well.

However, he remains optimistic about a comeback, emphasizing that every player knows their role and is ready for upcoming matches.

Addressing fielding lapses, Sompal defended Nandan Yadav, saying missed catches are part of the game and should not be singled out as a reason for the loss.

Chitwan Rhinos coach Kalam Ali praised his team’s disciplined batting, particularly their mid-overs partnerships, which contributed to their victory.

He also lauded Rabi Bopara and other key players for their performances.

Ali explained that the pitch favored batting more than bowling, especially spin, and credited both foreign and local players for contributing to the win.
