KATHMANDU: The upcoming Nepali feature film Captain Saab was officially announced on Thursday with a ceremonial muhurat held at Gaurighat, Kathmandu.
Directed by renowned filmmaker Dipendra K. Khanal, the film is a biographical drama based on the life of Captain Rameshwar Thapa — a pilot, entrepreneur, and media personality.
The muhurat scene was inaugurated by businessman Dr. Upendra Mahato, producer Kalyap, and Captain Thapa himself, signaling the start of the project.
Captain Saab marks the second production venture of Patkatha Production and brings together an impressive cast including actor Khagendra Lamichhane, actress Saugat Basnet, Sushma Pant, and Sanjog Rasaili in lead roles.
This film reunites Khagendra and Sushma with director Khanal after their collaboration in the acclaimed film Dhanapati.
Director Khanal shared his vision for the project, stating, “Captain Saab will be a unique cinematic experience. While rooted in the highs and lows of Captain Thapa’s real life, we’ll take creative liberties to offer a film that’s both inspiring and entertaining. From aerial challenges to the societal respect pilots receive, and the complexities of business connections — this film will explore it all.”
Cinematography will be led by Krishna Bahadur Thapa, with principal shooting scheduled to begin in early Bhadra. Filming will take place in Kathmandu, Chitwan, and parts of Kavre.
The production also involves Yarsa Studio and Rich Entertainment. Alongside Dipendra K. Khanal, Karan Shrestha and Srishtima Khanal are on board as producers, with Srijana Napit serving as the executive producer.
The film’s crew includes Sougat Basnet as the chief assistant director, Bhimsen Shahi (Royal Bhimsen) for poster and publicity design (Trident Concept), and production design by Aki Thekpa.
Rohit Raj Gautam and Bishnu Mainali will manage production.
