Campaign violence erupts in Baitadi, 3 injured

KATHMANDU: A clash erupted between activists of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the CPN-UML in Baitadi District during door-to-door election campaigning, leaving two activists injured.
According to the District Police Office, the incident took place at Lek Tol in Ward No. 7 of Dilasaini Rural Municipality, where campaign teams from both parties came face to face while canvassing voters.
What began as a minor dispute quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
Police spokesperson and Inspector Suraj Singh said two activists affiliated with the National Youth Association Nepal were injured in the clash.
The injured have been identified as 28-year-old Janak Dhami and 26-year-old Madhav Dhami, both residents of the area.
Janak Dhami sustained injuries to his head and forehead, while Madhav Dhami suffered injuries to his back and right leg.
Both were immediately rescued and taken to Gokuleshwor Hospital for treatment.
Their condition is reported to be stable.
With elections approaching, the incident has heightened security concerns in the area.
Police said a team led by an inspector has been deployed to the scene to investigate the incident, collect facts, and ensure peace and security.
Authorities have urged political parties and their supporters to maintain restraint and conduct campaigns peacefully.
