KATHMANDU: Birgunj Metropolitan City has removed temporary shops around Ghantaghar Chowk and BP Garden as part of efforts to organize the area.

Mayor Rajeshman Singh stated that the fruit, vegetable, and other makeshift stalls near the main city square were causing disorder, and their removal will allow for proper park development.

“Today morning, we deployed excavators to clear the unorganized market. Shopkeepers are cooperating by removing their belongings,” said Mayor Singh.

Over 250 vendors, including those selling vegetables, fruits, clothes, and food items, were operating in the area.

The mayor added that the city plans to invest around Rs 70 crore to build a beautiful, green park at the site.

Vendors displaced from the area have been provided with temporary structures along Railway Road in Chhapkaiya.

The clearing operation was carried out with strong presence from municipal police, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force.
