KATHMANDU: Bhaktapur’s Kamalpokhari ‘Nauka Bihar’ (Boat Park) is currently waiting for visitors.
Launched on Baisakh 1 to promote domestic tourism and provide recreational activities, the boat rides at Kamalpokhari remain largely empty except during festivals and holidays, said Sanjay Gojha, an employee working at the pond.
“Sometimes during festivals there are visitors, but otherwise, not much activity,” he added.
According to the Revenue Section of Bhaktapur Municipality, approximately Rs 500,000 was spent to install the boats in the pond.
An official from the section told Makalu Khabar that so far, the ‘Nauka Bihar’ operation has neither made a profit nor incurred a loss.
“We have been able to pay the staff salaries and cover the expenses,” the official said.
The municipality urges domestic tourists to come and enjoy boat rides while admiring the beautiful scenery of Kamalpokhari.
A fee of Rs 100 per person is charged for the boat rides at ‘Nauka Bihar’.
However, students, children under 10 years, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities receive a 50% discount, paying only Rs 50, according to the municipality.
