KATHMANDU: Ghadiarwa Pokhari (Pond), located in Ward No. 10 of Birgunj Metropolitan City, is a site of religious, historical, and tourist significance.
Spanning around five bighas, the pond was inaugurated in 1999 (2056 BS) by then King Birendra.
Once a simple water body, it has now become one of Birgunj’s major attractions and a center of religious faith.
The presence of the Surya Temple and a grand idol of Lord Surya has further enhanced its spiritual importance.
During the Chhath festival, thousands of devotees gather here to offer prayers to the setting and rising sun.
Today, Ghadiarwa Pond stands not only as a religious site but also as a symbol of Birgunj’s identity, cultural life, and growing internal tourism hub.
