Bardaghat Municipality tops revenue targets two years in a row
In FY 2080/81, the municipality had set a target of Rs 60 million but collected Rs 79.81 million.
KATHMANDU: Bardaghat Municipality in West Nawalparasi has exceeded its revenue targets for two consecutive fiscal years.
In FY 2080/81, the municipality had set a target of Rs 60 million but collected Rs 79.81 million.
Similarly, in FY 2081/82, it aimed for Rs 80 million and surpassed it with Rs 81.37 million in revenue.
Following this trend, the municipality has set a target of Rs 100 million for the current fiscal year.
As of Mangsir 13, Rs 35.93 million has already been collected, according to Sharda GC, Assistant Administrative Officer of the Revenue Section.
The municipality attributes the growth in revenue to initiatives such as business registration drives and awareness programs requiring mandatory approval of house building plans.
Last fiscal year alone, Rs 15.83 million was collected from house plan approvals.
However, revenue collection has faced challenges due to unpaid house rent taxes, uncollected riverbed contract fees, illicit extraction of river materials, and non-deposit of 10% revenue from small businesses and community forests.
The municipality continues to implement programs to increase compliance and maximize local revenue.
