KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has prepared a special operational plan to transport and collect ballot boxes from remote and geographically challenging regions for the upcoming elections.

To ensure timely delivery of election materials and personnel in mountainous and hill districts, the Commission has deployed helicopters in areas classified as highly remote.

The air service is being used both to dispatch ballot papers, polling staff and security personnel before voting, and to retrieve ballot boxes safely after polling concludes.

According to EC Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut, helicopters have already transported ballot papers, election officials and security teams to 27 remote polling locations in Humla and Dolpa. Of these, 23 polling stations are in Dolpa and four in Humla.

Following the completion of voting, helicopters will again be mobilized to collect ballot boxes from 61 remote locations across 15 districts, stretching from Taplejung in the east to Darchula in the far west. In more accessible areas connected by road networks, ballot boxes will be transported by vehicles.

To ensure secure and well-managed logistics, the Commission has already allocated the necessary budget to all 77 District Administration Offices for ballot transportation.

The operation will be carried out under the leadership of the respective Chief District Officers (CDOs), in coordination with all security agencies.

In line with the approved transport plan, ballot boxes will be collected from polling centers and delivered safely to 165 designated counting centers across the country, the Commission said.
