KATHMANDU: Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen, who recently resigned from the post of Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and entered politics with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), reached in the religious city of Janakpur early Monday morning.

Marking the beginning of a new chapter in his political journey, Shah visited the historic Janaki Temple before dawn, where he offered prayers and performed rituals.

He reached the temple premises before 6 am, accompanied by former lawmaker Amaresh Kumar Singh.

Devotees at the temple were surprised to see Shah and Singh dressed in similar-colored and styled outfits.

Despite the early morning chill, a large crowd of supporters and well-wishers gathered at the temple to catch a glimpse of Shah and interact with him.

Shah had officially resigned from his mayoral position on Sunday and assumed his new role at the RSP central office the same day.

He then headed straight to Janakpur to address an election-focused mass meeting organized by the party in Madhesh Province, ahead of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
