KATHMANDU: Three mountaineers have died in an avalanche in the Aragon region of northern Spain, while three others were rescued safely, authorities confirmed.

According to Spain’s Civil Guard, the victims included two men and one woman.

Another woman from the group is receiving treatment for minor injuries and hypothermia, while two men remain unharmed.

The incident occurred around 1:00 PM local time near the Tablató peak close to Panticosa.

The group, reportedly from the Basque region, was at an altitude of approximately 2,700 meters when a large slab of snow broke loose and swept them away.

Government official Fernando Beltrán stated that the avalanche was triggered by the collapse of a massive snow formation.
