KATHMANDU: Australia defeated Ireland comfortably by 67 runs in their opening match of the T20 World Cup on Wednesday.
The win gave Australia two points and pushed them to the top of Group B.
Chasing Australia’s total of 183, Ireland managed only 115 in 16.5 overs.
Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa each took four wickets, keeping Ireland’s score under control.
George Dockrell’s 41 was the highest individual score for Ireland.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and chose to bat first, posting 182 for six.
Marcus Stoinis top-scored with 45 off 29 balls, including two fours and a six, while Josh Inglis (37), Matthew Wade (37), and Cameron Green (21) contributed valuable runs.
Mark Adair claimed two wickets for Ireland.
With this win, Australia has set the tone as strong title contenders, while Ireland faces an uphill battle to progress after suffering their second consecutive defeat.
