KATHMANDU: Atletico Madrid delivered a stunning performance, thrashing defending champions Barcelona 4–0 in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals on Thursday, with all four goals coming in the first half.

An own goal by Eric Garcia handed Atletico an early lead, and Antoine Griezmann, Ademola Lookman, and Julian Alvarez added one each to complete a dominant display.

Barcelona ended the match with ten men after García received a red card in the 85th minute.

The second leg takes place at Barcelona’s home ground on March 3, where the Catalan giants face the daunting task of overturning a four-goal deficit.
