KATHMANDU: Aston Villa and SC Freiburg have booked their places in the final of the UEFA Europa League after producing dominant performances in their semifinal second-leg clashes.

Aston Villa overturned a first-leg deficit to crush Nottingham Forest 4-0 at home, sealing a 4-1 aggregate victory.

After losing the opening leg 1-0 through a penalty from Chris Wood, Villa responded emphatically in front of their supporters with an attacking masterclass.

Ollie Watkins opened the scoring in the 36th minute to level the aggregate score before Emiliano Buendía converted a penalty in the 58th minute to put the hosts ahead overall.

Club captain John McGinn then delivered the decisive blow late in the match, scoring twice in quick succession in the 77th and 79th minutes to complete Villa’s commanding victory and send the English side into the final.

Meanwhile, Freiburg scripted history by reaching their first-ever European final with a dramatic 3-1 win over S.C. Braga, advancing 4-3 on aggregate.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, the German side took control after Braga were reduced to 10 men early in the contest. Defender Mário Dorgeles received a straight red card for bringing down the last man.

Freiburg capitalized immediately as Lukas Kübler fired the hosts ahead in the 19th minute. Rising star Johan Manzambi doubled the advantage with a stunning long-range strike before Kübler netted again in the second half to put Freiburg firmly in control.

Pau Víctor pulled one goal back for Braga in the 79th minute, but Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu produced several crucial saves late on to preserve the historic result.

The final will now see Aston Villa face Freiburg in what promises to be a thrilling showdown for the Europa League crown.
