KATHMANDU: Dr Pranay Shumsher Rana, who recently resigned from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has officially joined the Nepali Congress.

Rana was welcomed into the party by Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa during a party-entry programme held after a manifesto-related question-and-answer session at the Rastriya Sabha Griha on Tuesday.

Rana, who had previously been affiliated with the Nepali Congress before joining the RSSP, said he decided to leave his former party after alleging financial irregularities in the candidate selection process carried out under the banner of “primary elections.”

He claimed that the process was marred by monetary influence, raising serious questions about internal democracy within the party.

Rana said his return to the Nepali Congress reflects his commitment to democratic values and transparent political practices.

Party leaders said Rana’s re-entry would strengthen the party’s organisational capacity and reform agenda ahead of upcoming political challenges.
