MP Pokharel slams govt, demands probe into BYD case & PM’s remarks
MP Pokharel alleged that the government’s behavior—particularly toward civil servants—has been intimidating and disrespectful, including the use of abusive language, which he said is adversely affecting the administrative system.
KATHMANDU: Opposition lawmaker from the CPN (UML), Laxmi Prasad Pokharel, has criticized the current government, saying its activities are sending “negative signals” and weakening public administration.
Speaking during Thursday’s session of the House of Representatives, MP Pokharel alleged that the government’s behavior—particularly toward civil servants—has been intimidating and disrespectful, including the use of abusive language, which he said is adversely affecting the administrative system.
He also reiterated his demand to remove what he described as a “controversial and anti-national statement” made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen Shah) from the parliamentary record, urging the Prime Minister to personally clarify and correct it in Parliament.
Raising concerns over the BYD case, Pokharel alleged possible tax evasion involving the electric vehicle company BYD, and called for the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee to ensure transparency and reveal the facts.
“The investigation is necessary and there should be no objection to it. However, intimidating civil servants, insulting them, and using abusive language is not a good sign,” he said, warning that such pressure and fear would weaken the administrative system.
Pokharel further stressed the importance of respecting Nepal’s constitutional journey, noting that political parties had led historic movements that resulted in the drafting of the Constitution through the Constituent Assembly process.
He urged the government to correct the Prime Minister’s statement and conduct an impartial investigation into the BYD case, warning that the current style of governance could push the country away from development and toward instability.
