Rolpa jeep accident: Six of same family cremated

KATHMANDU: A joint funeral was held on Monday for six members of a single family from Rukum East who died in a jeep accident last Thursday in Jaljala of Thabang Rural Municipality, Rolpa.

The last rites were performed at the banks of the Sani Bheri River in Dhawane Bagar.

Those cremated included 28-year-old Yuva Budhathoki, her 10-year-old son Divyan Budhathoki, her 53-year-old mother-in-law Tilikumari Budhathoki, 32-year-old brother-in-law Gorkhabahadur Budhathoki, 40-year-old sister-in-law Omkumari Budhathoki, and Omkumari’s 13-year-old son Sudip Budhathoki.

According to Sinshe Rural Municipality Chair Krishna Regmi, the funeral was conducted after Yuva’s husband, Deepak Budhathoki, arrived from the United States.

The family had been travelling from Rukumkot in Rukum East to attend a religious fair held in Jaljala on the occasion of a full moon day when the accident occurred before reaching the destination.

The jeep crash claimed 20 lives in total, while one person was injured. Fourteen of the deceased had already been cremated last Saturday.
