Former UML Kaski in-charge Thapa dies during party meeting
Although he appeared to be breathing upon arrival, doctors declared him dead shortly afterward.
KATHMANDU: Krishna Thapa, former in-charge of the CPN-UML in Kaski, passed away suddenly during an election review meeting on Thursday, party officials confirmed.
According to Jivan Acharya, Chair of the UML Pokhara Metropolitan Committee, Thapa collapsed while addressing the gathering and was immediately rushed to Manipal Teaching Hospital. Although he appeared to be breathing upon arrival, doctors declared him dead shortly afterward, citing a heart attack as the cause.
Thapa had initially been nominated by UML as a candidate for Kaski-2 in the elections held on March 5, but the party later replaced him with Rashmi Acharya following Thapa’s own recommendation. Rashmi Acharya was defeated by Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Uttam Paudel, who secured 31,911 votes compared to Acharya’s 7,493.
A prominent political figure, Thapa served as mayor of Pokhara Municipality after the 1997 local elections and later became a member of the Constituent Assembly. He also held the position of UML Kaski chairperson and served three terms as a central committee member.
